Vacation

Man, we love the Bay Area.  Got in Thursday AM just before Noon.

Picked up the car and headed for Foley's to have lunch with Colin, our favorite bartender and all around great guy.

After lunch it was too early to check in, so, we wandered down to Treasure Island (a little Irish gift shop on O'Farrell) to find it closed and empty.  So, we decided to go up to the Irish Castle on Geary.  On the way, we passed the Curran Theater where Jersey Boys (the story of Frank Valli and the Four Seasons)is playing.  I heard about Jersey Boys on the DSC (Adam Curry's podcast) and had actually explored ticket buying before leaving the Cities.  It was sold out but ticket auction sites only had some back row tickets for $250 a piece.  But, Shannon said, "We're here, we should at least check"  So, we did, and not only did they have a few tickets available, they were GREAT seats.  5th row, on the aisle, left center of the stage at face value ($85).

So, checked in, unpacked, rested for awhile and headed for the theater.  We're in the Queen Anne which is Sutter and Octavia (about 12 blocks NW of downtown.  We thought we'd walk a bit and flag a cab, but once we crossed VanNess, it seemed silly to not just walk the final 8 blocks.  Well, since it was daylight it was OK, but, I hadn't realized that Geary between VanNess and Jones or so is pretty much the heart of the Tenderloin.  Nothing really bad just somewhat disquieting.

Anyway, got to the Theater after ducking in for a burrito and sat down.  The couple in front of us said they saw the Broadway production and we were going to love it.  They were SO RIGHT.  This show is fabulous.  It's more concert than play.  Unlike most musicals, they don't really sings their lines, they just perform the songs in the storyline.  And, the singing is incredibly close to the original.  This is a show for American baby boomers!!!!  See it if you can.

Yesterday, took the ferry to Tiburon to see Scorpio at their little 3 screen theater. Good show.

Today, is St Pat's Day and we're getting ready to head for the parade.

Catch ya later.
